What families ask us

How does admissions work?

Families visit, apply and hear from us in March.

When are open houses and visits?

Open houses are in October and January. Visit days run most Wednesdays from October to March, and you may book one ahead of time.

Can we visit before we apply?

Yes, and we ask every family to. A visit day is a morning in a room and a talk with the head of school. Children are welcome to come along.

What is a work cycle?

It is the long morning stretch when children choose their work from the lessons a guide has given them. No bell interrupts it, and a guide moves between children, giving new lessons as each child needs them.

What happens when a child moves up a room?

The guides and the family decide together. The child visits the next room first and meets its guides, and the old and new guides talk before the move.

How does tuition work, and how do we ask about aid?

Tuition is set by the year and the room. Financial aid is available; the office sends an aid form after you apply.

How big are the classes?

Each room has its class size by grade. Rooms are mixed-age, with two or three guides in each.

What about lunch, clothing and phones?

Families send lunch, and the school provides a morning snack. Children dress to move and garden, and phones stay in a bag until pickup.

Is there care before and after school?

Yes. Doors open for early arrival at 7:30 a.m., and extended day runs until 5:30 p.m. Both are by sign-up, and the office bills them by the month.

Which languages do the guides speak?

Lessons are in English. The head of school and the upper elementary guide also speak Hmong with families.

Still have a question?

Write to the office, or book a visit and ask in person.
